For days we stood
between twilight
and uncertainty
the earth moistening
underneath
our bare feet
I clasped
my warm hand
in theirs
and gave
Once intertwined
now untangled
we’ve lost each other
and the humble hands
I used to know
have tired
in the distance.

Though the reasons I love you are complex
the feeling itself is vast and spacious —
pure, filtered, nutritious, and succulently consistent.
The feeling itself is a knowing
too deep to describe or succinctly define;
thus, within the ubiquity of love we find
the divine paradox of life:
though the reasons I love you are complex
the feeling itself is simple –
deep in my belly.
The feeling is rich and dynamic
stretching beyond tension
arching our backs again
toward sunsets and sunrises.
Though the reasons I love you are complex
the feeling itself is simple
illuminating, brilliant, bright —
unassumingly bright,
bold and peaceful
and confident and humble.
We hold each other up
in the dark and in the light.
And though it’s never just
I will say without being dismissive
that you just feel right to me.
You feel right in the bedrooms of my heart.
You feel right beyond reason,
enduring throughout my cold winter seasons –
you just feel like life to me.
